0.6.2 Adhesion
Optimum development of adhesion forces
- adhesion forces depend on the adhesive and substrate.
- adhesion forces are only effective at distances of less than 1 nm.
- For optimum development of adhesion forces:
The adhesive and substrate must approach one another sufficiently closely.
- The substrate must be free of dust and grease.
Loss of adhesion
1 nm (nanometre) is a millionth of a millimetre
1 km/1 mm = 1 mm/1 nm
One nanometre (nm) = 1 x 10-9 m
Optimum development of adhesion forces
For optimum development of adhesion forces, it is imperative that the workplace where the bonding is being carried out and the production facilities are clean!
Namely, the substrate surfaces must be clean and after the relevant pretreatment procedures the surfaces must not become contaminated again.
