3.1 Introduction

Besides careful selection of the substrate materials, adhesive, surface treatment and production conditions, the design of the bonded joint is also important in order to maximize the force transfer and long-term stability.
The goal is to prepare an adequate bonding area and to prevent stress peaks in the bonded joint when it is subjected to mechanical loads.

This section therefore describes and evaluates various mechanical loads.
Suggestions are also given for designing effective bonded joints.
