5.2 Overview: Surface treatment according to materials
Various surface treatment methods are available. Some methods, for example cleaning and degreasing, can be used on all substrate materials. Others can only be used on specific substrate materials.
The various methods will now be briefly introduced, with special mention of points that must be particularly heeded.
Common surface treatment methods used on substrates
- All materials → Cleaning and degreasing
- Metals → Grinding, grit blasting, e‌tching, flame pyrolysis, p‌rimers
- Plastics → Grinding, grit blasting, f‌lame treatment, p‌lasma treatment, p‌rimers
- Wood → Sanding, planing
- Glass → Primers
- Ceramics → Primers
- FRKs (f‌ibre reinforced plastics) → Grinding/sanding, grit blasting, peel-ply, f‌lame treatment, p‌lasma treatment, p‌rimers
