2.6 Wood
Properties of wood:
- The properties of wood depend very much on the tree the wood came from and the growth conditions. Thus it is very difficult to make general statements.
- High porosity
- The ability to absorb and release water from/to the surroundings
- Elasticity very dependent on the moisture content of the wood
- Wood shrinks on being heated
- Strength depends on the direction of the load to the wood structure. A distinction is made between axial, transverse, and tangential structures.
