5.9.3 Peel-ply on fibre reinforced plastics (FRPs)
Objective:
Peel-ply is an additional layer of peel-off fabric that is laminated to the surface of the FRP as the top layer. The removal of the peel-ply layer gives a fresh, clean surface (for bonding) without damaging the fibres.
Suitability:
Peel-ply is in principle suitable for fibre reinforced plastics.
Procedure:
- Cleaning is not necessary here
- Removal of the peel-ply along with any contaminants that are on the peel-ply
Points to heed:
- The substrates must be bonded immediately after removing the peel-ply
- Release agents, and other substances, may remain on the surface (check the surface if necessary)
